The highly anticipated update for Arc Raiders, titled Shrouded Sky, is set to launch on February 24, 2024. This update introduces a variety of new features that exceed player expectations, including two new Arc machines, significant changes to the Dam Battlegrounds map, and cosmetic updates.
Embark Studios, the developer behind Arc Raiders, has confirmed that the hurricane map condition will become a permanent rotation option. This will affect the gameplay in several locations, including Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport, and Dam Battlegrounds. Among the highlights of this update are the two new Arc machines: Firefly and Comet.
The Firefly is described as “a floating nightmare” equipped with a flamethrower, creating a significant threat for players who must either move quickly or seek cover to avoid being scorched. Similarly, the Comet is designed to patrol the surface stealthily, locking onto unsuspecting players before unleashing a devastating explosion. These new machines are positioned to add an exciting layer of challenge to the game.
Alongside the new Arc machines, players will engage in a new raider project focused on constructing a weather monitoring system. Players can collect materials from the topside to contribute to this project, earning rewards as they progress. This initiative ties directly into the newly implemented hurricane map condition, enhancing gameplay immersion.
One of the most noteworthy updates is the introduction of the first major map revision in Arc Raiders history. The Dam Battlegrounds will now include the Controlled Access Zone, a high-security area featuring valuable loot. The exact location of this new zone remains undisclosed, but players will know they have arrived when they encounter the “Rocketeer chandelier,” a unique visual cue.
Embark Studios is also enhancing the aesthetic experience with new cosmetics, including the long-awaited beards. Players can now access various beard styles for their characters, ranging from free stubble to a full beard and thick mustache available in the new Surgeon Raider Deck. This deck includes themed nurse and surgeon scrubs, likely to become popular among players who align with the healer role in gameplay.
In addition to the free updates, premium armor sets will be available for players looking to customize their appearance further. There is also ongoing concern about cheating in the game, with players expressing frustration over those exploiting the system to gain an unfair advantage. Calls for stricter penalties against cheaters have intensified, as players continue to encounter issues with individuals spawning their own hatches to escape defeat.
As the release date approaches, the gaming community eagerly anticipates the impact of these changes on gameplay dynamics and player engagement in Arc Raiders.
