Blumhouse and Atomic Monster Surpass $1 Billion at Global Box Office

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have achieved a significant milestone by surpassing $1 billion at the global box office for the first time, grossing a total of $1.022 billion in 2025. This achievement marks a turning point for the combined company, following a year filled with horror films that included eight productions. The success comes despite initial concerns regarding the performance of M3GAN 2.0, which did not replicate the blockbuster status of its predecessor.

The achievement is particularly notable given the combined production costs of $204 million, indicating a highly profitable year for the two studios. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster officially merged in January 2024, and this year’s box office receipts reflect the growing strength of their collaboration. The previous record for box office earnings was set in 2023, when Blumhouse films such as Insidious: Red Door and Five Nights at Freddy’s grossed $821.9 million.

Major Blockbusters Drive Revenue

The bulk of the revenue generated this year can be attributed to the latest installment in the Conjuring franchise, titled Conjuring: Last Rites, which alone earned $494.6 million globally. This figure not only sets a new record for the franchise but also makes it the only Conjuring film to exceed $400 million worldwide. Directed by Michael Chaves and starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, it accounts for 48% of Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s earnings in 2025.

Following closely behind is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which generated $201.8 million globally, with $108.9 million from domestic markets. The sequel, directed by Emma Tammi, opted for a traditional theatrical release, contrasting with the first film, which was released simultaneously on Peacock. The original film concluded its run with a global total of $291.5 million.

Another significant contributor to the box office success is Black Phone 2, which grossed $132.1 million globally. This film achieved the third highest opening weekend for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster this year, with a domestic launch of $27.3 million. The Black Phone franchise, which features Ethan Hawke, now totals $293.5 million in earnings.

Additional Releases and Future Prospects

Other notable films include The Monkey, based on a short story by Stephen King, which grossed $68.8 million worldwide. The film, directed by Oz Perkins, opened on February 21, exploring the grim consequences that unfold after two brothers discover an old toy in their attic. In contrast, M3GAN 2.0 performed below expectations, earning only $39 million globally compared to the original’s impressive $180 million.

Additional films in the Blumhouse pipeline include Wolf Man, which has grossed $34.1 million, and Drop, which brought in $28.7 million. Woman in the Yard, released on March 28, contributed $23.3 million to the totals, with 96% of its earnings coming from domestic markets.

As Blumhouse and Atomic Monster prepare for their next release, The Mummy is set to premiere on April 17, 2025, promising to continue the momentum built over the past year. The partnership’s success at the box office highlights the enduring appeal of the horror genre and positions them as major players in the film industry.
