Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery Expand HBO Max Internationally

Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) have formalized a new international agreement aimed at enhancing their collaborative efforts. This multi-year, multi-territory deal will see the expansion of HBO Max into two additional markets: Belgium and Austria. The agreement also renews HBO Max’s distribution via Canal+ in several countries, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.

The partnership extends beyond HBO Max. Distribution rights for popular channels such as Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and CNN International will also be renewed in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Furthermore, Warner TV will continue to be available in the Czech Republic.

Broadening Reach in Africa

In a significant move for the African market, the agreement will renew the distribution of 12 thematic channels across territories served by MultiChoice Group. This includes well-known channels such as CNN International and Cartoon Network, along with Discovery Channel, ID, TLC, and the Food Network. This expansion is anticipated to enhance viewer access to a diverse array of programming.

This new agreement builds upon previous arrangements established in 2024. These earlier deals included the renewal of the exclusive pay-TV window for Warner Bros. Pictures films in France, allowing access to films just six months after their theatrical release. Additionally, HBO Max will be integrated into select Canal+ group offerings, enhancing value for subscribers.

The timing of this agreement coincides with Netflix‘s pending acquisition of WBD, a move that could further solidify Canal+’s position in the competitive landscape of international media. Canal+ already boasts distribution deals with Netflix, which may enhance its influence as a power player on the global stage.

As the media landscape continues to evolve, this partnership between Canal+ and WBD is positioned to make a significant impact on content delivery across Europe and Africa. The collaboration not only reinforces their existing relationship but also sets the stage for future developments in the ever-changing world of entertainment.
