Cleveland Meteorologist Hollie Strano Returns to TV After Sobriety Journey

A prominent meteorologist in Cleveland is making a notable return to television following a period of personal challenges. Hollie Strano, previously with WKYC Channel 3 for over two decades, has joined the team at WCTU Cleveland 13 News after being dismissed in September 2024. Her career took a downward turn after a drunk driving arrest in November 2023, where she was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence after a crash in Cuyahoga Falls. Authorities reported that her blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit during the incident, which occurred on Thanksgiving night.

After pleading guilty to the charge, Strano embarked on a public journey to sobriety, sharing her experiences on social media. While she worked on local radio stations, including Mix 94.1 in Canton, this marks her first return to traditional television. WCTU, described as a “community-driven news network,” emphasizes digital platforms such as its website, cleveland13news.com, and various social media channels.

In a creative promotional video for her comeback, Strano stated she aims to present herself authentically, shedding her “old version,” which she referred to as an “inauthentic” representation in a long black dress. In a striking moment, she ripped off the dress to reveal a sleek sleeveless outfit, signaling a fresh start.

Matt Greminger, President of Cleveland 13 News, expressed the community’s connection with Strano, highlighting her genuine relationship with viewers. “Hollie has always had a genuine relationship with Northeast Ohio viewers,” Greminger stated. “Her story is one of perseverance, honesty, and growth. Cleveland 13 is proud to provide a platform where she can continue sharing her passion for weather and for this community.”

Strano will not only cover weather but also engage in other news stories and interviews. She emphasized the need for authenticity in news reporting, stating, “People are craving something real. That’s what I want to bring moving forward.”

In a candid interview released by WCTU, Strano reflected on her past, acknowledging the weight of her experiences. “I will never not be sorry for what happened,” she said. “I can now look back at it and say that it was 100% one of the worst days of my life, but also one of the best.” Alongside her struggles with sobriety, Strano faced a cancer diagnosis in 2024, which required two surgeries.

With renewed determination, Strano expressed excitement for her new role, stating, “The creative part of this is endless, and I love that. I have no limits. I was limited, but not anymore. So stay tuned.” Her journey resonates with many, and her return to television is seen as a testament to resilience and personal growth.
