The Season 2 finale of “Gen V,” now available on Amazon Prime Video, has created significant connections to the upcoming final season of “The Boys.” In an episode titled “The Guardians of Godolkin,” Marie, portrayed by Jaz Sinclair, showcases her blood-control powers by defeating Thomas Godolkin, a character who played a crucial role in the creation of Homelander.
The stakes in the Vought Cinematic Universe have escalated dramatically. With Godolkin dead, Eric Kripke, showrunner of “The Boys” and co-creator of “Gen V,” expressed enthusiasm about potentially bringing Ethan Slater back for the prequel series “Vought Rising,” which is currently in production. Kripke noted that scheduling has been challenging due to Slater’s commitments to a notable independent film. He stated, “If there’s a Season 2 of ‘Vought Rising,’ we would definitely have him in as Godolkin.”
As the story unfolds, the fifth and final season of “The Boys” is set to pick up approximately six months after the events of the “Gen V” finale. Kripke confirmed that Marie and her allies will join Annie, also known as Starlight, played by Erin Moriarty, in their resistance against Vought. He commented, “You’ll get a sense of this resistance that really kicks off at the end of ‘Gen V’ — how it’s been going — when you pick up ‘The Boys’ Season 5. And the spoiler is: Not well.”
Despite her powerful abilities, Kripke emphasized that Marie is not a flawless solution to the looming threat of Homelander. “She’s super powerful, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she’s amazing at controlling it,” he remarked. He compared her development to that of characters in “The Matrix,” suggesting that viewers can expect to see Marie struggle with her newfound powers.
Kripke elaborated on the extent of Marie’s abilities, stating, “She controls blood down to the cellular level.” This grants her various options, from healing to creating explosive effects. He noted that her power is closely related to that of Victoria Neuman, the vice president who was killed by Butcher in the Season 4 finale of “The Boys.” Kripke described Marie’s abilities as “more powerful,” which could play a pivotal role in future confrontations with Homelander.
Looking ahead, Kripke shared insights on the potential for a third season of “Gen V.” He mentioned that discussions about future storylines are underway, but the decision ultimately hinges on viewership numbers. “They’re watching the numbers closely. They’re keeping a pretty tight poker face right now, but hopefully, we can get a Season 3,” he said.
In addition to the series expansion, there are plans for a video game set in the universe of “The Boys.” While specific details remain under wraps, Kripke confirmed that development is in progress with writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The game is expected to take place after the events of Season 5 and may feature crossover characters from both “The Boys” and its Mexico-set spinoff.
As the “The Boys” franchise continues to evolve, Kripke and his team aim to bring the central conflicts—such as Butcher’s ongoing battle with Homelander and the relationship dynamics among the characters—to a satisfying conclusion. “We’re trying to bring to a conclusion in a surprising and emotional way,” he stated.
The production team remains excited about the future of the series and its potential expansions. With the final season of “The Boys” and developments in the wider franchise, fans can look forward to more thrilling narratives from this critically acclaimed universe.
