A lifelong resident of Harrisburg, Chris Moppin, has won $1 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket, marking a significant milestone in his life. Moppin, aged 59, purchased the ticket at his regular spot, Cue-Nique, located at 505 Strawberry Square. After scratching the ticket at home, he was stunned to discover that he had won the grand prize, an experience he described as “overwhelming.”
“When I scratched the ticket, I could not comprehend the numbers,” Moppin recounted, as reported by the Pennsylvania Lottery. His disbelief turned to joy when he confirmed the win multiple times. Moppin shared his excitement with his family, although he faced initial skepticism from his children. “When I first told them I won, they didn’t believe me,” he said.
Plans for the winnings are already taking shape. Moppin intends to treat his five grandchildren to a trip to Disney World, a long-awaited adventure for the family. He also mentioned the possibility of considering early retirement from his position as clubhouse manager for the Harrisburg Senators, a role he has held since 1987.
Moppin’s responsibilities include ensuring the players are well taken care of, from laundry to meals. He expressed a desire to start “taking it easy” and building a nest egg for the future. “I will probably work another year or two, but it is nice to know this win gives me options,” he stated.
Local Store Celebrates Second Major Win
The store where Moppin purchased his winning ticket has celebrated the occasion as well. Anne Marie Jacoby, the owner of Cue-Nique, revealed this is the second winning ticket worth $1 million that the store has sold in the past two decades. “We are a mom-and-pop shop that has been here for 30 years, and it is wonderful to see one of our longtime customers win such a life-changing prize,” Jacoby noted. She highlighted the positive publicity the win has brought to the store.
Drew Svitko, the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Lottery, extended his congratulations to Moppin on behalf of the organization. “After decades of dedication to his community and his team, it is wonderful to see him celebrate a grand slam win of his own,” Svitko remarked. He expressed hope that Moppin’s prize would help him create lasting memories with his family.
The excitement surrounding Moppin’s win underscores the life-changing potential of lottery games, reflecting both personal joy and community engagement. With plans for family adventures and a more relaxed future, Moppin’s story serves as an inspiring reminder of the possibilities that can arise from a simple scratch-off ticket.
