Indian Film Festival of Houston Spotlights France with New Traditions

The 18th Annual Indian Film Festival of Houston (IFFH) is set to take place on February 27 and 28, 2026, at the Asia Society Texas Center. This year, the festival introduces a new tradition by celebrating a guest country alongside India, with France taking the spotlight. Recognized as the birthplace of cinema, France will be honored through a rich array of films, cuisine, and cultural programming.

Festival founder and executive director Sutapa Ghosh expressed excitement about this initiative, stating that it aims to enhance cultural exchange and appreciation. The tagline, “Collaborate, Create, and Deliver,” emphasizes the festival’s commitment to partnerships, including a collaboration with Producers Without Borders. Attendees can anticipate a vibrant experience, featuring acclaimed films, international storytelling, and live music performances.

Central to the festivities will be a special luncheon hosted by French chef David Denis, who is the owner of Bistro Mistral. Originally from the South of France, Chef Denis has earned a reputation in Houston for his culinary expertise. He previously owned the popular restaurant Le Mistral, where he garnered a loyal following. At Bistro Mistral, he continues to celebrate traditional French cooking, utilizing seasonal ingredients to create dishes that foster a communal dining experience.

The festival will not only showcase French films but also provide a platform for culinary and cultural immersion. This initiative reflects a broader trend in festivals worldwide, where diverse cultural influences are increasingly appreciated and celebrated.

As the event draws near, the Houston community is encouraged to participate in this cultural celebration, which promises to enhance understanding and connections between different cultures through the universal languages of film and food.
