The future of the Hitman franchise is secure, as developer IO Interactive has confirmed plans for more content beyond the latest installment, Hitman: World of Assassination. Following a rebranding in 2023, the studio is poised to expand on the universe of the iconic character Agent 47, though specific details about upcoming projects remain under wraps.
In a recent interview with Variety, Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, stated that fans should anticipate further announcements in due course. “Of course, there will be more Hitman,” Abrak noted. He emphasized that while the studio is focused on completing its current projects, news regarding a co-op mode for World of Assassination will be unveiled next year. This new mode aims to introduce innovative mechanics and collaborative gameplay.
As IO Interactive continues to develop its next major title, the studio is also working on 007: First Light, which is scheduled for release in March 2026. This exciting project adds to the anticipation surrounding IO Interactive’s ventures beyond the Hitman series.
In the meantime, Hitman: World of Assassination has benefited from significant post-launch support. The most recent addition is a unique mission featuring the rapper Eminem, who teams up with Agent 47 to confront his notorious alter ego, Slim Shady. This collaboration showcases the studio’s creativity in blending popular culture with its gameplay. Senior level designer Håkan Almer and writer Jen Simpkins revealed that Eminem will act as a source of intelligence alongside Agent 47’s handler, Diane Burnwood.
Looking ahead, IO Interactive is also developing a multiplayer game currently referred to as Project Fantasy. Although details about this title have not yet been formally disclosed, Abrak described it as an “extremely ambitious” undertaking for the studio. This project reflects IO Interactive’s commitment to diversifying its gaming portfolio and exploring new genres.
With these developments, the future of the Hitman franchise looks bright, and fans can expect more thrilling experiences from IO Interactive in the years to come.
