Jane’s Addiction Officially Disbands Following Tumultuous Concert

Iconic rock band Jane’s Addiction has officially disbanded, more than a year after a chaotic final concert that ended their reunion tour. On Wednesday, the band announced the end of their musical partnership, with lead singer Perry Farrell and the remaining members releasing separate statements regarding the split.

The disbandment stems from an incident during a concert in September 2024, when Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro on stage, leading to the abrupt cancellation of their tour. In a statement posted on their official Instagram account, Jane’s Addiction acknowledged the fallout from that night, stating, “After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret.” The band emphasized their desire to resolve differences for the sake of their legacy, noting, “We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors.”

Farrell expressed remorse in his own statement, reflecting on his behavior during the incident. “I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have,” he said. “I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.” The frontman added that Jane’s Addiction has been central to his life for decades, stating, “The band, the songs, the patrons, and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down.”

The tumultuous concert in Boston marked the band’s first tour with bassist Eric Avery since 2010 and included their first new music in over three decades. The tour was cut short when Farrell confronted Navarro during the performance of the song “Ocean Size.” In a dramatic moment, Avery intervened, tackling Farrell to pull him away from the stage.

Jane’s Addiction has seen various lineups throughout its history, including collaborations with notable musicians like Duff McKagan and Flea. The core members—Farrell, Navarro, and drummer Stephen Perkins—have remained consistent, contributing to the band’s most recognized works. The single “Imminent Redemption,” released in 2024, was their first collaboration with Avery since 1990.

The band is celebrated for its influential contributions to alternative rock in the late 1980s and 1990s, with hits such as “Jane Says,” “Stop!” and the Grammy-nominated “Been Caught Stealing.” In addition to his work with Jane’s Addiction, Farrell is known for his project Porno for Pyros, while Navarro has made a name for himself with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and television shows like “Ink Master.” Avery spent nearly two decades with the band Garbage, and Perkins has performed with a variety of groups, including Rage Against the Machine and Nine Inch Nails.

As each member moves forward into new creative pursuits, the legacy of Jane’s Addiction remains a significant chapter in the narrative of rock music.
