Jay Buchanan Releases Solo Album ‘Weapons of Beauty’ on February 6

Jay Buchanan, the frontman of the rock band Rival Sons, is set to release his debut solo album titled Weapons of Beauty on February 6, 2024. The highly anticipated ten-track project marks a significant milestone in Buchanan’s career, showcasing his artistic evolution and personal expression.

Buchanan reunites with producer Dave Cobb, a collaborator on several of Rival Sons’ successful albums, including 2019’s Feral Roots and 2022’s Darkfighter. The songs for Weapons of Beauty were reportedly written in the solitude of an underground bunker located deep in the Mojave Desert. The first single, “Caroline,” was released alongside the album announcement, offering a glimpse into Buchanan’s introspective songwriting.

In a statement regarding “Caroline,” Buchanan shared, “I suppose that writing about unquenchable grief allows you a kind of permission to pay respect to those deep chasms in your life without wallowing in them. Putting it in a song lets you buy the ticket and take the ride and then move on.” This reflects his aim to transform personal struggles into art, creating a relatable experience for listeners.

Continued Collaboration with Rival Sons

While Buchanan embarks on this solo journey, Rival Sons remain an active force in the music scene. The band is scheduled to participate in the second annual Little Steven’s Underground Garage Cruise in April 2026. This event highlights their ongoing commitment to live performances and fan engagement.

Buchanan recently gained attention for his dynamic performance at a BMI tribute to John Fogerty in Nashville, where he delivered a barefoot rendition of “Fortunate Son.” His ability to captivate audiences continues as he steps into the spotlight with his solo work.

Reflecting on his creative process for Weapons of Beauty, Buchanan remarked, “As music continues to be choked out by technology, I wanted to draw pictures in the dirt. This approach is right with me and I’ve just come to a point where there is no longer a choice. Weapons of Beauty is the sound of these plates shifting within me, too loud to ignore. Surprisingly, I’ve never known a vulnerability to feel so empowering.”
