Michael Chaves Declares End of ‘Conjuring’ Franchise Following Last Rites
Director Michael Chaves has officially announced that the horror film series, The Conjuring, has come to an end. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Chaves, who has helmed previous entries including The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II, confirmed that the latest installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, will be the final chapter in the franchise. Despite the film’s financial success, the decision to conclude the series remains unchanged.
Chaves stated unequivocally, “It is done. This is the final chapter … that’s why we called it Last Rites. It’s the last one. There’s no other Conjuring movies. It is absolutely the end.” His comments provide clarity for fans who have followed the saga of demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. The two actors have been integral to the series, which has garnered a significant following since its inception.
Future of the Conjuring Universe
While the main films featuring the Warrens may be concluding, reports suggest that the Conjuring universe will continue through various spinoffs. A television series based on the franchise is currently in development at HBO Max, indicating that while the narrative arc of the Warrens is closing, the broader universe may still have life. Chaves’s definitive remarks seem to pertain specifically to the four main films that revolve around the Warrens, leaving the door open for other characters and stories to emerge.
The potential for spinoffs, including those focused on popular characters like Annabelle and The Nun, remains a topic of interest among fans and industry analysts alike. It is not uncommon for successful franchises to evolve beyond their original storylines, and the Conjuring universe has already seen several successful extensions.
As the final film gears up for its release, audiences and critics are eager to see how the franchise will conclude the Warrens’ storied journey. While Chaves has confirmed this to be the end for the main series, the possibilities for future content within the Conjuring universe seem promising, ensuring that fans may still have much to look forward to in the realm of supernatural horror.
For those interested in the ongoing developments, further details regarding the future of the Conjuring franchise and its associated projects are expected to emerge in the coming months.
