Neil Gaiman Denies Sexual Assault Allegations, Labels Them as False

Neil Gaiman, the acclaimed author known for works such as “American Gods” and “Coraline,” has publicly responded to sexual assault allegations made against him, denying the claims and criticizing media coverage. This marks his first statement on the matter in several months.

In a detailed post on social media, Gaiman categorically rejected the accusations, describing them as a “smear campaign” aimed at damaging his reputation. He asserted that the allegations, which involve accusations from nine women, are untrue and supported his stance by referencing private communications and recordings that, in his view, contradict the allegations.

Allegations and Media Response

The allegations were first brought to light in a July 2024 podcast investigation conducted by Tortoise Media. They were subsequently examined in a January 2025 report by New York Magazine. Among the accusers is Scarlett Pavlovich, who previously worked as a nanny for Gaiman and his ex-wife, musician Amanda Palmer.

In his statement, Gaiman expressed disappointment in the media’s handling of the situation, stating, “These allegations, especially the really salacious ones, have been spread and amplified by people who seemed a lot more interested in outrage and getting clicks on headlines rather than whether things had actually happened or not. (They didn’t.)” He emphasized that he had anticipated a more thorough investigation from media outlets, one that would consider the available evidence rather than perpetuate what he described as an echo chamber.

Gaiman’s response reflects his belief that the truth will ultimately prevail. He conveyed that maintaining his perspective on the events has been crucial to enduring the fallout from the allegations. He concluded his statement by expressing gratitude toward his supporters who have stood by him during this challenging time.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Gaiman continues to have a significant presence in the literary world, and his statements have prompted discussions about the responsibilities of both the media and the accused in such serious matters. The author’s ability to address the allegations publicly underscores the complexities surrounding accusations of sexual misconduct and the importance of responsible reporting in these sensitive situations.
