Toronto Blue Jays Claim Victory in Most-Watched World Series Game

The Toronto Blue Jays secured a commanding victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers with a score of 6-2 in Game 4 of the World Series on March 15, 2024. The game drew an impressive average of 14.81 million viewers across Fox, Fox Deportes, and streaming platforms, according to Nielsen data. This marked the most-watched game of the current World Series and the second most-viewed Game 4 since 2018.

Audience engagement peaked at 16.7 million during the late innings of the game, specifically between 10:00 and 10:15 p.m. EDT. While the competition was stiff, especially following last year’s World Series between the Dodgers and the New York Yankees, which averaged 16.28 million viewers for its Game 4, this year’s numbers highlight a significant interest in the series.

World Series Viewership Trends

The current World Series is showing stronger viewership compared to recent years. The four-game average stands at 12.16 million viewers, exceeding the record-low average of 9.11 million from the five-game series between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023. Furthermore, it has surpassed the six-game average of 11.79 million for the 2022 matchup between the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies.

Last year’s series averaged 14.98 million viewers through four games, which was the highest viewership since 2017. This year’s combined average viewership from the United States and Canada reached 21.5 million for Game 4, marking the most-watched World Series game when combining both countries since the decisive game of the 2019 series between the Washington Nationals and the Astros.

Through four games, the World Series now averages 19.3 million combined viewers in the U.S. and Canada, reflecting a 23% increase and the highest viewership since the 2016 matchup between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs. In Canada, Blue Jays games are broadcast on Sportsnet, a network owned by Rogers Communications Inc., the parent company of the Blue Jays.

As the tournament progresses, the anticipation builds for upcoming games. Ratings for Games 3 to 5 in Japan are expected to be released by Major League Baseball on Friday, with the average viewership from the first two games recorded at 10.7 million.

With increased viewership and heightened excitement surrounding the series, the Blue Jays and Dodgers continue to captivate audiences, making this World Series a memorable event in baseball history.
