Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 85 years old. Born in Alhambra, California, on August 25, 1940, Donna was the daughter of Evelyn Farrell and Carl Hoyem. Her early life was shaped by the loss of her father, which led her mother to remarry Donald H. Jones, who became a significant figure in Donna’s upbringing.
As a teenager, Donna and her family relocated to North Tustin, where she completed her education at Mater Dei High School before pursuing further studies at Orange Coast College. After graduating, she dedicated 13 years of her career to the Coast Community College District, serving as the student loan and due diligence officer. Her commitment to education and community was evident throughout her professional life.
A Life of Faith and Service
Following her retirement, Donna embraced a life filled with travel alongside her husband, Donald (Don) Babbs. The couple shared a profound love for exploring the world, which allowed them to create cherished memories during their 65 years of marriage. Donna’s Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in her extensive volunteer work with various charitable organizations aimed at helping those in need.
Donna is survived by her husband, Donald Lee Babbs; three daughters, Leigh Anne Nanci, Kelly Babbs, and Kristal Babbs; and son-in-law, Thomas Nanci. Her family legacy continues through her three grandchildren, Joseph Nanci (Kimberly), Jessica Greubel (John), and Johnathan Babbs (Charlotte), along with seven great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by her brother, Richard Jones, her sisters-in-law, Susan Hoyem, Benita Jones, and Liza (Hoyem) Haynes, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Carl (Jack) Hoyem and William Hoyem, preceded her in death.
Funeral Arrangements
Funeral services are scheduled to take place at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine on December 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. This will be followed by an interment service and a reception, providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together to honor her memory.
