The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) has officially endorsed the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) 2026 childhood vaccination recommendations. This decision aligns Connecticut’s public health policies with those of a leading organization in children’s health, reinforcing the state’s commitment to maintaining high immunization standards.
According to a recent community announcement, Manisha Juthani, the DPH commissioner, emphasized the importance of these guidelines: “The AAP’s immunization schedule incorporates well-established, science-driven recommendations that physicians, public health officials, and parents can rely on to keep children healthy and communities protected.” She noted that these recommendations are consistent with the current protocols that have been effective in protecting Connecticut’s children and reducing the risk of preventable diseases.
Support from Medical Communities
Connecticut joins nearly a dozen professional medical societies across the United States in supporting the new vaccination recommendations. Earlier in January 2024, the DPH reaffirmed its commitment to the existing vaccine schedule for children and adolescents. This endorsement reflects a broader trend among states, as Connecticut is one of 15 states in the Governors Public Health Alliance that have opted not to adopt proposed changes to the vaccine schedule from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Juthani further stated, “Public health policy in Connecticut will continue to be driven by the best available evidence-based research and data. Our responsibility to the health of our residents requires nothing less.” This strong emphasis on data-driven public health policy highlights Connecticut’s proactive approach to safeguarding community health.
The AAP’s vaccination recommendations aim to provide a comprehensive framework for immunization that protects children from various infectious diseases. These guidelines are developed based on extensive research and are intended to assist healthcare providers and families in making informed decisions regarding childhood vaccinations.
As public health officials continue to navigate the complexities of immunization, Connecticut’s endorsement of the AAP’s recommendations stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to promoting the health and well-being of its younger population. The DPH will continue to monitor and adapt its policies in alignment with the latest scientific evidence, ensuring that the health needs of Connecticut’s residents remain a top priority.
