Danica McKellar Reveals Secrets to Staying Fit at 50

Danica McKellar, known for her role in “The Wonder Years” and her work with Great American Family, recently shared her approach to maintaining her health and fitness at the age of 50. In an interview with Fox News Digital, McKellar offered insights into her eating habits, particularly during the holiday season when temptations abound.

In her own words, McKellar stated, “My secret — one of my secrets — is that I don’t eat dessert or anything that’s bad for me until I’m totally full with all the healthy stuff.” She explained that by filling up on nutritious foods first, she allows herself to enjoy a few bites of dessert without feeling deprived. This strategy helps her manage cravings and avoid overindulgence.

McKellar emphasized that she does not subscribe to traditional New Year’s resolutions. Instead, she focuses on daily intentions, saying, “I try to just resolve to be the best person I can be, to do what God wants me to do.” Her commitment to personal growth aligns with the themes of her upcoming holiday film, “Have We Met This Christmas?”, set to premiere on December 13, 2023.

This film marks McKellar’s twelfth Christmas movie and her debut as a writer. She expressed excitement about incorporating meaningful themes into the film. “You get to put in the themes that you want,” she said, referencing concepts such as listening to God and forgiveness, which resonate during the holiday season.

In addition to her acting career, McKellar recently published her twelfth math book, “I Love You 100: A Counting Book Full of Love.” She noted that staying engaged in creative projects helps her maintain a balanced lifestyle.

When discussing her diet, McKellar described it as “very boring,” stating that her key to staying fit is drinking plenty of water. “I really don’t drink alcohol, I don’t drink coffee, I don’t drink soda, certainly nothing with artificial flavors or sweeteners,” she said. McKellar believes that such substances can negatively impact health, advocating for a clean diet free of gluten, dairy, and processed foods.

Preparation is an essential part of McKellar’s routine. She cooks her meals regularly, finding it easier to control ingredients and maintain healthy eating habits. “I cook dinner every night — well, every other night, so we can have leftovers,” she explained. While on location for her film, she adapts by using an instant pot and rice cooker to prepare healthy meals in her hotel room.

This commitment to healthy eating helps McKellar resist the temptation of unhealthy snacks. “When I am resisting the urge, I think to myself — this is my other secret. I think to myself, right now is when I’m earning all the things I love about feeling good and feeling fit and healthy. Right now, I’m earning it,” she shared.

As the holiday season approaches, McKellar’s practical advice and dedication to health serve as an inspiration for many looking to navigate the festivities without compromising their wellness goals. With her new film and continued focus on health, McKellar exemplifies a balanced approach to life, encouraging others to prioritize well-being during the most tempting times of the year.
