David Hope Officially Named President of Queen’s University Medical Group

Queen’s Health Systems has confirmed the appointment of David Hope as the president of the Queen’s University Medical Group (QUMG) and senior vice president of the health system. This decision, announced on October 20, 2023, follows several months in which Hope served in an interim capacity. His permanent appointment is part of a strategy to enhance coordination among the health system’s hospitals and clinics, solidifying his leadership over the employed physicians.

Leadership Role and Responsibilities

In his new role, Hope will oversee more than 700 employed providers working across Queen’s hospital campuses and ambulatory sites. His responsibilities will include management of professional-service agreements that connect Queen’s with community physicians. This is crucial for ensuring that specialists and primary care providers maintain effective communication. Hope is also expected to play a significant role in strengthening Queen’s partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine, which focuses on clinical education and training for future healthcare providers in the region.

Background and Experience

Hope first assumed the leadership position at QUMG on an interim basis in July 2025. Prior to his tenure at Queen’s, he held the role of vice president of physician services at Meritus Health. He also spent nine years at Wake Forest Baptist Health, where he managed extensive clinical networks, providing him with valuable experience in healthcare administration.

This promotion comes at a pivotal time for Queen’s Health Systems, which is investing heavily in its clinical capacity and striving for improved care coordination. Recently, The Queen’s Medical Center was recognized as the top hospital in Hawaiʻi by U.S. News & World Report. With Hope officially in charge, Queen’s leadership aims to enhance the integration of inpatient services, outpatient clinics, and medical education, thereby aligning clinical operations with the training of the state’s physician workforce.

As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, Hope’s leadership is expected to be instrumental in navigating these changes and ensuring that Queen’s remains a leader in providing high-quality medical care.
