The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has announced the 29th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2023. This event, running from 10:00 to 14:00, provides communities with a safe and anonymous platform to dispose of unwanted prescription medications.

The DEA, in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, will facilitate this initiative across multiple locations in Northeast Nebraska. Specific drop-off sites include the Antelope County Sheriff’s Office in Neligh, Hy-Vee, and the Dakota County Law Enforcement Center in South Sioux City, along with the Winnebago Tribal Police Department in Winnebago.

The DEA Omaha division, which encompasses Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, will operate a total of 132 take-back locations. Acceptable items for disposal include tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Additionally, tightly sealed liquids, such as cough syrups, will also be accepted, provided they are in their original containers. It is important to note that syringes, sharps, and illicit substances will not be collected during this event.

Library to Close for Staff Training

In a related announcement, the Norfolk Public Library will close on Tuesday, October 28, 2023, due to a scheduled software migration. Library staff will participate in a training workshop during this time. While the library will be closed, existing meeting room reservations will still be honored. Furthermore, no items will be due back on that day, although book drops will remain open for those wishing to return materials.

This temporary closure reflects the library’s commitment to improving its services through updated technology and staff training.
