Beloved Community Member John Joseph Matwijcow III Passes Away

John Joseph Matwijcow III, aged 59, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in The Villages, Florida. Born on January 16, 1966, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, John spent much of his life in South Plainfield and later lived in Bridgewater, New Jersey, as well as Nazareth and Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. In January 2025, he relocated to Florida, where he continued to engage with his community.

John’s education was marked by his time at the McCauley School, which supports students with special needs. His determination and enthusiasm were evident through his participation in the Special Olympics, where he showcased his love for physical activity and connection with others. He also benefited from supportive services through THE ARC, which allowed him to engage in meaningful daily activities and foster a sense of belonging.

Legacy of Joy and Connection

Known for his gentle spirit, John brought joy to those around him. His love for music, particularly that of Elvis Presley, was a significant part of his life. He enjoyed watching his favorite television game shows and westerns, as well as creating art through coloring. His fondness for Italian cuisine was well-known, and he had a particular affection for McDonald’s, often bringing a smile to his face.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph Matwijcow, Jr. and Patricia Ann Cirigliano Matwijcow, along with his mentor and brother, Joseph Matika. He is survived by his loving sisters, Kimberly Ann Matwijcow Kopke and Jessica Ann Matwijcow Clark, who served as his primary caregiver and cherished him deeply. He is also remembered fondly by family members including David, Christopher, Brenda, Adrian, Jasmine, Emily, Mark, Isabel, Jacob, Chelsea, and Vega (Jonathan).
