Cardinal Dougherty’s Annual Visit in 1925

On November 29, 1925, Cardinal Dennis J. Dougherty of Philadelphia visited the parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua Church. A group of Italian-American citizens from Chester, led by Rev. Antonio Garritano, pastor of St. Anthony’s, traveled to Philadelphia to escort the cardinal back to the city. Cardinal Dougherty arrived at the church school, located at Third and Parker streets, at 15:30, where he attended a performance by local schoolchildren and parishioners. He was accompanied by Bishop Mahoney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Upland Borough Council Rescinds Police Appointment in 1950

In 1950, Upland Borough faced community backlash when the Borough Council rescinded a motion to appoint a part-time police officer.
