Carol K. Lugar, also known as Carol Kay, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on February 2, 2026, in Bluffton, Indiana. A beloved figure in her community, Lugar leaves behind a legacy of dedication to family and friends, with a life marked by service and love.
Born to Kenneth and Mary Loy Nusbaumer, Carol graduated from Chester Center High School in 1964. She spent most of her life in Chester Township, where she became an integral part of her community. Carol was a devoted member of Chester Center Church during her early years and enjoyed a successful career at Old First National Bank in Bluffton, as well as at CTS of Berne.
Carol’s family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Lugar, and her siblings: Linda (Carl) Marvic from Vista, Texas, Marlene (Jim) Hoag from Craigville, and Darrel (Deborah) Nusbaumer of Bluffton. Carol was also a cherished aunt to nine nephews and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews, who will remember her fondly for her caring nature and playful spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Kenneth Eugene Lugar, and her brother G. Lamoine Nusbaumer.
Memorial Services and Final Farewell
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Carol from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on February 5, 2026, and one hour prior to the service on February 6, 2026, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, located at 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier.
A service to celebrate her life will take place at 2 p.m. on February 6, 2026, with Pastor Lyle Breeding officiating. Following the service, interment will occur at Stahl Cemetery in Petroleum.
