Laura Diane Gray passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 24, 1948, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, she was the daughter of Richard and Claradine (Hays) Hill. Diane’s life was defined by her deep commitment to family and her passion for service, which resonated through her work and relationships.
Legacy of Love and Service
Diane married her soulmate, Jackie Dale “Jack” Gray, in December 1969. Their marriage lasted for 44 years, marked by unwavering devotion until Jack’s passing on February 25, 2013. Together, they raised a family that includes their children, Tara Jacquelyn Gray, Moriah Cheyene Gray, and David Bryan Gray, along with stepsons Keith Gray and Brad (Kristie) Gray. She also cherished her role as a grandmother to nine grandchildren: Kyra Nemec, Hazel Gray-Bretz, Nevaeh, Nolan, and Noble DePew, and Sarah, Aaron, Dustin, and Emilie Gray.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and several family members, including stepdaughter Kelly Lea Gray, sisters Donna Carpenter-Resnik and Judy Green, brother Joe Hill, and sister-in-law Vera Jo Currington. These losses shaped her resilience and strengthened her family bonds.
Growing up as the eldest of six siblings, Diane cherished her family ties. Throughout her life, she maintained close relationships with her sisters, Janet (Kenny) Denison and Jeannie (Bruce) Currington, and her half-sister, Tabitha Hill. She also had a brother-in-law, Dennis Currington, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Heart for Service
Diane dedicated her working years to healthcare and hospice roles, where she provided compassion and support to those in need. One of her most meaningful contributions was her work with children at the First Baptist Church of Farmington, where she served faithfully for over 35 years. This commitment exemplified her belief in fostering a nurturing environment for the younger generation.
Above all, Diane took immense pride in her children and grandchildren. She embraced motherhood with enthusiasm, especially in her relationship with Tara, whose birth first fulfilled her dream of being a mother. As “Mimi,” she created lasting memories with her granddaughter Kyra, enjoying outings to the zoo and pool, and indulging in ice cream together. Diane was determined to provide a loving and secure childhood for Moriah and David, ensuring they always felt supported.
Her faith was central to her life. Diane actively encouraged her children and grandchildren to attend church, embodying the teachings of Jesus through her words and actions. She hoped to be remembered not just for her love but for her unwavering commitment to guiding others toward faith.
