Ed Kelce Backs Son Travis as NFL Tight End Rankings Heat Up

Ed Kelce has publicly defended his son, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, amid ongoing debates regarding tight end rankings in the NFL. The 74-year-old took to Instagram to commend Travis’s performance this season, particularly emphasizing his leadership in total yardage among tight ends through Week 10. “If anyone questions how good Travis is playing; through Week 10 he leads all tight ends in total yardage,” Ed Kelce remarked.

As of Week 10, Travis Kelce indeed held the top position in total yards among NFL tight ends. However, by Week 12, he has slipped to second place, overtaken by Trey McBride of the Arizona Cardinals. McBride currently leads the league with 80 receptions and 797 total yards. In contrast, Travis Kelce has amassed 674 yards, just ahead of Tyler Warren, a rookie tight end for the Indianapolis Colts, who has recorded 662 yards.

Despite being 36 years old, Kelce has demonstrated a remarkable resurgence this season. He has successfully made 54 catches and scored four touchdowns, already exceeding his total from the previous season. Known for his consistent performance and strong connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the four-time All-Pro and ten-time Pro Bowler remains an integral part of the Chiefs’ offense.

Following last season’s Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce dismissed retirement rumors and confirmed his intention to return for the current season. Recently, he indicated that he would announce his plans for the 2026 season before NFL free agency begins in March, providing the Chiefs with time to strategize for the offseason.

In the Chiefs’ recent game against the Colts, Kelce contributed significantly with four catches for 43 yards, helping secure a narrow 23-20 victory. This win improved Kansas City’s record to 6-5, although they remain outside the playoff picture. The upcoming games are crucial for the Chiefs as they strive to clinch a playoff berth and contend for the division title.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs face a challenging matchup on Thanksgiving, taking on the Dallas Cowboys at 16:30 ET. This game is poised to test the team’s postseason aspirations and further evaluate Kelce’s ongoing impact on the field.
