Kylie Kelce has shared her decision to transition from breastfeeding to formula feeding her youngest daughter, Finn, after nearly nine months of nursing. During the December 18, 2023, episode of her podcast, Not Gonna Lie, she discussed the challenges of weaning and the personal choices involved in her breastfeeding journey.
“I’m currently in the midst of weaning Finny,” Kylie explained, highlighting that the process has not been easy. She candidly admitted, “Weaning is not going great because … it’s not going.” With Finn nearing the arrival of her first tooth, Kylie noted her determination to stop breastfeeding at that milestone. “As selfish as this may sound, that’s where I draw the line. Aggressively,” she stated.
Kylie has a history of breastfeeding her older daughters for approximately seven to eight months each. “I’ve never breastfed a child past them getting teeth,” she revealed. This point underscores a broader conversation about the often-taboo subject of breastfeeding and maternal choices, something Kylie frequently addresses. In a previous episode, she offered a straightforward piece of advice for those around breastfeeding mothers: “Act natural.”
Throughout her journey, Kylie has emphasized that her choices are personal and may not align with everyone else’s experiences. “Just to be clear, this is my choice,” she affirmed. “I am very fortunate to have been able to breastfeed because I know that that’s not always everyone’s journey.” Recognizing the diversity of maternal experiences, she acknowledged that some mothers who wish to breastfeed face challenges that prevent them from doing so.
As part of her weaning process, Kylie intends to introduce formula, as she has done with her other daughters. She pointed to her six-year-old daughter, Wyatt, who is currently learning to read and write, to illustrate that feeding methods do not determine a child’s developmental trajectory. “Anyone who has an opinion about how I choose to go about my breastfeeding journey, and therefore my formula-fed journey, you can kindly get f—–,” she remarked, emphasizing her stance on the issue.
Kylie concluded with a powerful reminder: “Fed is best. Let me say it one more time for emphasis: fed is best.” This statement encapsulates her belief that the well-being of the child is paramount, regardless of how they are fed.
Kylie Kelce’s candid discussion sheds light on the complexities of motherhood and the diverse choices women make, encouraging a more open dialogue about breastfeeding and feeding practices.
