The Vernon Company mobilized its employees to support a significant community initiative on October 24, 2023. Volunteers from the organization collaborated with the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity to construct a new home in Newton, Iowa. This effort involved the installation of roof trusses and fascia boards, showcasing both the dedication and skills of the Vernon team.
Eighteen volunteers participated in the project, working across two shifts to accumulate a total of 62 volunteer hours. Among them was Chris Vernon, President and CEO of The Vernon Company, who expressed gratitude for the commitment shown by his team. “A big thank you to our 18 Vernon volunteers who spent Friday lending a hand to the new Newton Habitat home. The future homeowner was truly touched by everyone’s effort to help make her dream home a reality. It was a fun, rewarding day,” Vernon stated.
Becca Decker, Community Partnership Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of such partnerships. She noted that the engagement of volunteers not only aids in building homes but also strengthens community ties. “The Vernon Company volunteers were absolute rockstars,” Decker remarked, highlighting the positive impact of the collaboration.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by Habitat for Humanity to provide affordable housing solutions to families in need. The combination of financial support from The Vernon Company and the hands-on involvement of its employees significantly contributes to the organization’s mission in the local area.
As the construction progresses, the excitement builds for the new homeowners, who are already planning their living spaces in what will soon be their new residence. A celebration is planned upon completion of the project, marking a significant milestone for both the families and the community.
The collaboration between The Vernon Company and Habitat for Humanity reflects the potential of corporate volunteerism to make a meaningful difference in local communities. Such initiatives not only provide essential resources for housing but also foster a sense of unity and purpose among volunteers.
