Dan Ericson, a cherished resident of Hermosa Beach, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. He was surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly. Known for his kindness and sense of humor, Dan left a lasting impact on the South Bay community.
A Life of Achievement and Service
Born on October 26, 1948, Dan grew up in the coastal communities of Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach. Raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson, he attended Aviation High School, where he excelled in sports, particularly baseball and basketball. His leadership qualities shone through when he was named Homecoming King.
After completing his studies at El Camino College, Dan was “recruited off the beach” to play volleyball at San Diego State University. His athletic talents were complemented by a strong sense of duty, as he proudly served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
Transitioning from a brief career in the aerospace industry, Dan discovered his passion for real estate. Over the decades, he built a successful business in the South Bay, earning a reputation for his expertise and integrity. He was dedicated to mentoring young realtors, teaching them the importance of conducting business with honesty and heart.
A Legacy of Love and Community
In 1980, Dan married Cetha Walkington at Neighborhood Church, and together they created a loving home rooted in family and community values. He was a devoted father to their two children, Sten and Kirstin, and a proud grandfather to Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.
Known for his gentle nature and playful spirit, Dan had a talent for wordplay that often caught people off guard. His love for the ocean was evident in his younger years, as he enjoyed surfing, fishing, and sailing. These passions shaped his easygoing personality, which resonated throughout his life.
Dan was an active parishioner of American Martyrs Church for more than 40 years, maintaining strong connections within the community he cherished. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who predeceased him.
A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Prior to the Mass, family and friends are invited to a paddle out at 10:00 AM on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach. All are welcome to attend and honor Dan’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting mental wellness through ocean therapy.
