Collingham FC MC Claims Early Lead in Newark Darts League
Collingham FC MC has taken an early lead in the ladies’ division of the Newark & District Double Board Darts League, following a convincing 11-4 victory against King’s Queens. This win comes on the heels of their opening day success over Railway Club Artists, solidifying their position at the top of the standings.
The match began with Collingham establishing a solid foundation, leading 3-1 after the first pairs. However, King’s Queens fought back, leveling the score at 3-3 thanks to a singles win by Michelle Antcliffe over Collingham’s Jo Bilbie. In response, Collingham’s skipper, Sharon Hovey, and teammate Amy Rayney secured wins, extending their lead to 7-3.
The decisive moment came when Leanne Forman drew with King’s Queens’ skipper, Andi Atherley, giving Collingham an unassailable lead of 8-4. Bilbie then clinched the match with a victory in the final team leg, concluding the game with another strong 11-4 score.
In the men’s division, reigning champions Wheatsheaf Marauders have also made a strong start, emerging as the early leaders after a 4-1 win against The Taverners. The Taverners initially took the lead with a successful checkout from their captain, Simon Cobb. However, the Marauders quickly regained control, showcasing their dominance with a hat-trick of finishes from Paul Gallacher.
Wheatsheaf Marauders now sit at the top of the table, while Castle & Falcon-based teams, Bellies & Bullseyes and BBC2s, follow closely behind. Both teams have recorded back-to-back victories and are within a point of the leaders.
BBC2s established a commanding 3-0 lead against in-house rivals The Arrows, thanks to strong performances from skipper Luke Haswell and James Brown. Although The Arrows fought back to close the gap, BBC2s ultimately secured the match.
Wheatsheaf Wanderers climbed into fourth place after a tight 9-6 victory over Castle & Falcon Hitters. The Hitters initially led the match but were unable to hold onto their advantage. Despite having two leads in the match, they were met with fierce competition from the Wanderers, who rallied back to claim their first victory of the season.
The competition is heating up as teams vie for position in both divisions. As the Newark & District Double Board Darts League progresses, all eyes will be on Collingham FC MC and Wheatsheaf Marauders to see if they can maintain their winning momentum.
