The Mineral Area women’s basketball team showcased a commanding performance on November 4, 2025, defeating Wabash Valley 86-58 in Park Hills. The Cardinals established early control through effective defensive pressure, which allowed them to convert multiple fast-break opportunities.
Lydia Kemnitzer led the team with a solid offensive display, scoring a team-high 15 points and hitting 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals demonstrated remarkable shooting efficiency, finishing the game with a field goal percentage of 53 percent and converting 19-of-26 free throw attempts. Despite committing 24 turnovers, they managed to limit Wabash Valley to just one basket in the first quarter.
The game began with a quick run from Mineral Area, as Marceline Clermont contributed 13 points and five steals. She capped a 9-1 surge with a three-pointer and a layup following an interception of a wayward pass. Mariah Dallas added to the scoreboard, making all six of her free throw attempts for a total of 12 points and seven rebounds.
By halftime, the Cardinals held a substantial 41-20 lead, with Casey Teague hitting a jumper to solidify their advantage. The lead further expanded to 56-26 midway through the third quarter, highlighted by Kemnitzer’s fourth three-pointer and a conventional three-point play from Clermont.
Freshman guard Shalyn Sprinkles was the standout performer for Wabash Valley, scoring a game-high 22 points and making a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Teammates Aijia Elliott and Jordan Scott each contributed eight points to the effort.
Mineral Area’s offensive depth was evident as P.J. Reutzel also scored in double digits, finishing with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. She secured a loose ball to convert her second steal into a layup and followed with a three-pointer shortly thereafter.
The Cardinals capitalized on their defensive prowess, creating a 22-5 lead after the first quarter. Kemnitzer and Ivet Calaza added long-range shots in the second quarter. Mineral Area had 11 players contribute to the scoring, with Amia Moore assisting Lamiya Gooden, extending the lead to 45-23 at one point.
Teague matched Karma Jones with eight points and also grabbed nine rebounds, while Calaza added seven points. Julia Vazquez contributed to the team’s free throw success, going 4-of-4 from the line.
Looking ahead, the Mineral Area women’s basketball team (5-3) will travel to face Olney Central on Saturday, aiming to build on this emphatic victory.
