Myles Garrett is on the brink of NFL history as he approaches the single-season sack record. The defensive end for the Cleveland Browns has recorded an impressive 18.0 sacks in just 11 games, needing only five more to surpass the current record of 22.5 sacks held jointly by Michael Strahan and TJ Watt. Strahan initially set this record in 2001, remaining unchallenged until Watt matched it in 2021.
Garrett’s performance in the 2025 season has been nothing short of extraordinary. With six games remaining, he is on pace to not only break the record but potentially make it difficult for future players to achieve. Strahan has expressed his support for Garrett, stating, “There’s nobody like Myles Garrett.” During an appearance on FOX NFL Sunday, he praised Garrett’s skill, saying, “I am truly hoping he breaks the sack record.”
Strahan, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, compared Garrett’s abilities to some of the greatest defensive players in history. He remarked, “I was thinking about this, Lawrence Taylor is the best defensive player I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. But I think this kid is close, in my opinion. I think he’s better than Reggie White, I think he’s better than my guy Bruce Smith, myself — this guy is something else.”
Garrett, now 29 years old, is already considered a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he continues to excel in his prime. With his current trajectory, it is increasingly likely that the single-season sack record will soon bear his name. He has averaged 13 sacks over his last four games, and his confidence remains high.
“I don’t even think about it as a want — I just think about something that I’m going to knock down,” Garrett said. “It’s already been written in my mind that it’s going just how far I’m going to take it. So, just going to go out there and do what I do, and whatever number I end up at.”
With each game, the anticipation builds among fans and analysts alike. Will Garrett not only break the record but also redefine what it means to dominate on the defensive line? As he continues his pursuit, all eyes will be on him as the season unfolds.
