According to spokesperson Mark Latti, the snowmobile, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it failed to navigate a sharp 90-degree turn, striking a curb. The force of the crash caused the vehicle to flip, ejecting both teenagers before colliding with the side of a nearby house.
Tragically, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy suffered multiple injuries and was initially transported to Cary Medical Center in Caribou before being transferred to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further treatment. Both teenagers were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The Maine Warden Service is conducting a thorough investigation into the crash and has withheld the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.
