URGENT UPDATE: A Better Community is set to kick off Black History Month with a landmark event this evening, featuring its first-ever title sponsor for the annual Merchant & Mission-Focused Marketplace. The highly anticipated event will take place on February 4, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dunbar Pavilion, located at 325 W. 2nd St.
This year, more than 40 vendors will participate, marking the largest gathering of Black-owned businesses and community organizations in Southern Arizona to date. The Arizona Racial Justice Initiative is stepping in as the title sponsor, allowing vendors to fully focus on community engagement without the burden of fees.
“It’s just amazing to be able to have the community come together. We have more than 40 businesses and nonprofits who serve Southern Arizona, so I’m excited,” stated Trehon Cockrell-Coleman, co-founder of A Better Community.
The marketplace is designed to transform the Dunbar Pavilion into a vibrant hub where attendees can discover local artists, food vendors, tax experts, and barbers—all under one roof. The initiative aims to foster lasting connections within the community, going beyond just the month of February.
“Every vendor gets to come to the event on Wednesday, leave with 100% of their sponsorship or profit, but more than anything, they leave knowing more people in the community,” Cockrell-Coleman added.
The event not only celebrates Black History Month but also emphasizes the importance of supporting local businesses. Cockrell-Coleman highlighted the goal of making sure each vendor feels “supported and loved,” reinforcing community ties that extend well beyond the event itself.
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with your local community and support Black-owned businesses! The atmosphere promises to be lively, filled with opportunities for networking and collaboration.
