UPDATE: San Diego State Aztecs have just secured a decisive 25-3 victory over San Jose State, finishing their home season undefeated at Snapdragon Stadium with a perfect 6-0 record. This win, achieved on November 22, 2025, solidifies the Aztecs’ position in the Mountain West conference as they prepare for the final game of the regular season.
The Aztecs dominated from the start, with safety Dwayne McDougle intercepting San Jose State’s quarterback Walker Eget just two minutes into the game. McDougle’s impressive 25-yard return set the stage for a quick touchdown by running back Lucky Sutton, putting the Aztecs ahead 6-0 early on.
“It feels great to show people that when we play at home, we mean business,” said senior Chris Washington, who contributed to the final touchdown. The Aztecs, now boasting a 9-2 overall record and 6-1 in conference play, used this game as a celebration of their seniors on a night filled with emotional significance.
In a surprising move, the Aztecs opted for a two-point conversion following their first touchdown, successfully executed by senior DJ Herman, who connected with fellow senior Brady Anderson. The Aztecs extended their lead by adding a 35-yard field goal from kicker Gabriel Plascencia, making the score 11-0 by the end of the first quarter.
San Jose State managed to get on the board with a 37-yard field goal from kicker Mathias Brown in the second quarter, closing the gap to 11-3. However, the Aztecs responded with another touchdown from quarterback Jayden Denegal, who rushed in from the one-yard line shortly before halftime, leaving the score at 18-3.
“It’s amazing,”
Denegal stated during the post-game press conference.
“But we’ve just got to keep getting better day-by-day.”
Denegal finished the game completing 7 of 11 passes for 79 yards and demonstrated his versatility with 8 rushing yards. Sutton led the ground game with 47 yards on 14 carries. The final touchdown came from Washington, who raced in from the eight-yard line with just two minutes remaining.
This game marks a significant moment in the Aztecs’ history as it is expected to be the last showdown with San Jose State as members of the Mountain West conference. San Diego State will join Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Utah State in the Pac-12 effective July 1, 2026, while San Jose State will remain in the MWC.
Looking ahead, the Aztecs will conclude their regular season against New Mexico on Friday at 12:30 p.m. This game is crucial as a win could propel them into the Mountain West Championship game on December 5. New Mexico boasts a strong record of 8-3 and has won five consecutive games, adding to the intensity of the upcoming matchup.
As the Aztecs continue their pursuit of a conference title, fans are eagerly anticipating the next challenge, hoping to build on the momentum of this significant victory.
