URGENT UPDATE: Barbara Ann Meyer, age 78, of Forney, Texas, has passed away on January 3, 2026. Her death has left a profound impact on her family and community, prompting an outpouring of grief and remembrance.
Meyer, a graduate of St. Joseph High School in 1965, dedicated her life to public service, working as a Claims Specialist for the Social Security Administration in various locations, including Houston and Victoria. She began her career with the Dewitt County Health and Human Services, showcasing a lifelong commitment to helping others.
Born on October 22, 1947, to Jimmie Peter and Mildred Agnes Mikulenka, Barbara married Carl Meyer in August 1972. Together they raised two children, Stephanie and Kevin, who were the center of her world. Following her husband’s passing, Barbara continued to nurture her family, particularly enjoying her role as a grandmother to her beloved grandchildren, Owen and Zeke Whisenant.
Her family recalls Barbara as a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with loved ones, especially during family vacations at the beach.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary at 7:15 p.m.. A Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum, led by Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Whisenant (Adam) of Forney; siblings, Jimmie Don (Verlene) and Gayle Parenica (Ronnie); sister-in-law Bernice Mikulenka; and her cherished grandchildren, Owen and Zeke. She was preceded in death by her son Kevin Meyer and her husband Carl.
In honor of Barbara’s legacy, memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
This sudden loss has prompted many in the community to reflect on Barbara’s contributions and the memories shared with her. Family and friends are encouraged to come together to celebrate her life during the upcoming services.
