Bay Village Unveils Urgent Improvements for Cahoon Park in 2026

UPDATE: Bay Village officials have just announced critical improvements for Cahoon Park, set to take place in 2026. The city’s proposed budget includes urgent repairs to the gazebo, enhancements to the family aquatic center, and new amenities for Bay Lodge. Residents can expect to see these developments before summer.

During a November 10, 2025 budget hearing, Director of Public Service Mary Kay Costello highlighted the need for immediate action on the gazebo, which shows signs of deterioration. “We noticed this year that the gazebo at the park near the Community House had some deterioration around the posts,” she stated. The gazebo serves as a key venue for events like the Memorial Day program and summer concerts, making its restoration a top priority.

The city plans to allocate $50,000 for field turf enhancements at Cahoon Park, which will include regrading and reseeding the area around a newly installed 1.3-million-gallon underground storage tank. This tank is essential for managing stormwater runoff and preventing sewer overflows into Lake Erie.

In addition, a significant budget of up to $382,000 is earmarked for resurfacing the pool floor at the Bay Village Family Aquatic Center. The work aims to address cracks and bubbling in the existing structure, ensuring a safe environment for families. “The pool floor is cracked and has a lot of bubbling,” noted official Dan Enovitch. The project is set to commence in spring, with completion expected before the summer opening.

The planned enhancements also include a new canopy and landscaping for the patio area at Bay Lodge, aiming to make the space more inviting for residents hosting events. Costello emphasized the importance of adding shade to attract more users, stating, “If there were some shade provided, people would use it more.”

As the City Council’s Finance Committee prepares to finalize the budget by the end of the year, residents are encouraged to stay informed about these critical park improvements. The changes are not just repairs; they represent a commitment to enhance community spaces and ensure accessibility for all residents, including veterans attending important ceremonies.

Residents should prepare for these upgrades to transform Cahoon Park into a more functional and enjoyable space. Stay tuned for further updates as the budget approval process unfolds and timelines for these projects are confirmed.
