Beloved Community Member John Matwijcow III Passes Away at 59

UPDATE: The community of The Villages, Florida, is mourning the loss of John Joseph Matwijcow III, who passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 59. His passing has left a profound impact on family and friends, who remember him for his gentle spirit and love of life.

Born on January 16, 1966, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, John lived a life rich in community involvement and personal passion. He attended the McCauley School, which supports students with special needs, and was an enthusiastic participant in the Special Olympics, showcasing his determination and joy in being active. John’s dedication didn’t stop there; he was also engaged with THE ARC, taking pride in meaningful daily activities that connected him to his community.

John’s love for music, particularly Elvis Presley, and his favorite television game shows and westerns brought him immense joy. He had a special fondness for Italian cuisine and cherished visits to McDonald’s, which never failed to make him smile. His artistic side shone through in his love for coloring and creating art, leaving a lasting impression on those he interacted with.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Kimberly Ann Matwijcow Kopke and Jessica Ann Matwijcow Clark, who served as his primary caregiver and cherished him deeply. John is also fondly remembered by numerous family members, including David, Christopher, Brenda, Adrian, Jasmine, Emily, Mark, Isabel, Jacob, Chelsea, and Vega (Jonathan). His family reflects on the joy he brought into their lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
