Beloved Musician Marjorie Sack Hobday Passes Away at 95

URGENT UPDATE: Marjorie Sack Hobday, a cherished member of the Burnt Hills community, has passed away at the age of 95. She died peacefully at her home on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of music, creativity, and community involvement.

Marjorie, born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise Sack. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, as well as her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack.

Known for her enduring passion for music, Marjorie and Richard were active participants in numerous musical groups, such as the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. They shared their talents across various church choirs, including St. Mary’s in Lake Luzerne and Calvary Church, which became their musical home.

Marjorie’s vibrant spirit shone through her resourcefulness during the Great Depression, where she learned to craft and sew to support her family. Her love for gardening brought beauty to both her home and community, while summers spent at their camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir created lasting memories of joy and nature.

The couple’s bond was ignited at a square dance, where they began a love story that would span decades. Together, they nurtured a passion for writing and painting, hosting an annual Holiday Art Show Open House for over 40 years, showcasing their artistic creations.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Gordon Hobday (Carol), daughters Wendy Haugh (Charles) and JoAnn Massad (Richard), and grandchildren including Katherine, Anne, Henry, and more. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her loving neighbor, David Vasko.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, a reception will take place in the church hall, inviting all to celebrate Marjorie’s life.
