UPDATE: Authorities in Texas have discovered a body “very close” to the home of 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since Christmas Eve. This urgent search effort has captivated the San Antonio community as officials worked around the clock to locate the young woman.
The body was found shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, about 100 yards from Olmos’ home in northwest Bexar County. It was located in an area previously searched, prompting the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI to return for a second look. Sheriff Javier Salazar noted that the clothing on the body resembled what Olmos was last seen wearing.
“This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for,”
said Sheriff Salazar during a press briefing. Although the body has yet to be officially identified and the cause of death remains undetermined, Salazar indicated he does not currently suspect foul play in Olmos’ disappearance.
Camila was last seen on Wednesday morning, and authorities believe she may have been in “imminent danger” at that time. Earlier in the day, a dash cam video surfaced showing a person, presumed to be Olmos, walking along the side of a road. The individual was dressed in clothing matching the description provided by the sheriff’s department.
Olmos was reportedly wearing a baby-blue and black hoodie, baby-blue pajama bottoms, and white shoes when she vanished. Investigators also reviewed video captured by a neighbor’s doorbell camera, which showed a person believed to be Olmos searching her car shortly before she left home, taking only her car keys and possibly her driver’s license.
Salazar also revealed that investigators have found indications of suicidal ideations and depression in Olmos’ past, although he refrained from confirming any link to her current situation. “What young person doesn’t have bouts of depression at a certain point?” he questioned, emphasizing the need to explore all possible scenarios regarding her disappearance.
