UPDATE: The C.J. Stroud Foundation is set to unveil a newly remodeled playground at Southwest Public Schools International Leadership Academy in Houston today, November 7, 2023. This urgent initiative aims to revitalize a critical play area for children in an underserved community, ensuring they have a safe and fun environment to enjoy.
The project, led by Kimberly Stroud, mother of Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, comes in partnership with Lowe’s and Full Court Peace. After two years of requests from the students for improvements, the school reached out for assistance due to a lack of budget for necessary repairs.
“We really just wanted the community to know that we see them,” Kimberly Stroud stated. “The students had begged for a new playground, and their project manager, Chantal Sanchez, reached out to us, explaining that they couldn’t afford refurbishments and that the playground was unsafe.”
Construction began last week, with volunteers working diligently to ensure that the playground would be ready for the children. The new area will feature swing sets, a jungle gym, a fabric barrier for privacy, new mulch, lights, a science garden, a racetrack, and a physical education area.
“Bringing joy to these kids is paramount,” Kimberly added. “This playground could be their only source of happiness and safety, and we want them to know they matter.”
The grand opening ceremony is expected to draw significant attention, as this project represents a powerful legacy for C.J. Stroud, who experienced similar challenges growing up. “C.J. is not just a football player; he understands the struggles of these kids,” Kimberly emphasized.
Kimberly expressed deep gratitude towards Lowe’s, stating, “We could never have done this without them. Their team supported us wholeheartedly, providing resources and volunteers to make this project a reality.”
This playground renovation is not just about equipment; it symbolizes hope and community support. With the unveiling set for today, the excitement is palpable among students and faculty alike at Southwest Public Schools.
As the community comes together to celebrate this significant development, it serves as a reminder of the profound impact that local leaders and organizations can have on the lives of children in need.
Stay tuned for updates on the ribbon-cutting ceremony and hear firsthand from the students as they experience their new playground.
