Carroll Community College Foundation Leader Retires After 24 Years

BREAKING: Carroll Community College has just announced the retirement of Steve Wantz, the executive director of the college’s foundation, after an impressive 24 years of dedicated service. This significant leadership transition comes as the institution honors Wantz with the prestigious emeritus status, one of the highest accolades bestowed for his unwavering commitment to students and the broader community.

Wantz, a Carroll alumnus and first-generation college graduate, joined the college in 2002 following a successful 26-year career in financial services. At that time, the Carroll Community College Foundation managed less than $750,000 in assets. Under Wantz’s visionary leadership, that figure skyrocketed to over $36 million, facilitating scholarships, vital academic initiatives, and transformative capital projects.

Throughout his tenure, Wantz spearheaded four major fundraising campaigns, each exceeding its target. The latest campaign, Turning Hopes and Dreams into Reality, raised a remarkable $14.46 million for scholarships, campus enhancements, and workforce development programs, setting a new record for the foundation.

In addition to fundraising success, Wantz initiated several impactful programs, including the President’s Society, the Joseph F. Shields Legacy Circle, and the Starry Night Gala, which collectively generated over $2 million for scholarships over the past two decades. These initiatives have not only strengthened the college financially but also fostered a deep sense of community and pride among students and alumni.

“Steve’s leadership has transformed what is possible for Carroll and its students,” stated President Rosalie Mince. “His ability to connect people to our mission has built not only financial strength but also trust, pride, and a shared purpose that will endure for decades.”

As Carroll Community College embarks on a new chapter without Wantz, the institution faces the challenge of maintaining the momentum he created. The college community is left to ponder the future of its foundation and how it will continue to support its mission in the years ahead.
