In his statement, Young emphasized the importance of family, saying, “My family must come first, and stepping back from this race to care for my family, as well as continuing to fulfill my duties as state treasurer, is the responsible choice.” His exit leaves three Democrats vying for the nomination to challenge incumbent Republican Gabe Evans, who is seeking re-election.
The remaining candidates include State Representatives Manny Rutinel and Shannon Bird, as well as Marine veteran Evan Munsing. Rutinel has established a significant fundraising lead, having raised over $2 million, which is double the total amassed by his closest competitor. Bird has recently announced her intention to resign from her legislative seat to focus entirely on her campaign, while Munsing seeks to make his mark in the political arena.
