Community Raises Over $25,000 for Families After Stewartville Shooting

UPDATE: The Stewartville community has swiftly rallied to raise over $25,000 for families impacted by a tragic shooting that unfolded on the morning of December 12, 2025. A GoFundMe campaign initiated by the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club surpassed its initial goal of $22,000 just hours after the incident, reflecting the community’s urgent response to the crisis.

The shooting occurred around 5 a.m. in the parking lot of Stewartville High School, as the school’s wrestling team was preparing to leave for a meet in Grand Forks, North Dakota. A student was critically injured, while an adult male was found dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson.

“Our hearts are with the victims, their families, friends, coaches, and everyone affected,” the wrestling booster club stated in a heartfelt message posted on Facebook shortly after the shooting. They emphasized the importance of community support during these troubling times, calling for unity and resilience.

As the investigation continues, authorities have not yet released the names or ages of those involved in the shooting. Sheriff Torgerson confirmed that details surrounding the event remain unclear, stating, “We don’t know anything that led up to this at all, at this point.” A press conference is scheduled for Monday to provide further updates.

In addition to the GoFundMe efforts, donations can be made in person at any Eagle Rock Bank branch, referencing the “Stewartville Wrestling Benefit Account.” Full Court Custom Apparel Inc. is also contributing by donating 100% of proceeds from shirt sales to the victims’ families.

The response from the wrestling community has been overwhelming, with neighboring programs like Dover-Eyota, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Century, and Mayo stepping up to donate hundreds of dollars. The Clash National Wrestling Duals has also made a significant contribution of $1,000 to support the affected families.

As the community mourns and begins to heal from this horrific tragedy, the outpouring of support underscores the strength and unity among residents. With the fundraising efforts continuing, many are urged to contribute and stand with those in need during this incredibly difficult time.
