Fire Destroys South Aurora Home in Cooking Accident, 2 Adults, 2 Kids Displaced

URGENT UPDATE: A kitchen fire erupted in a south Aurora home on Wednesday night, causing extensive damage and displacing two adults and two children. Firefighters responded to the emergency call at 6:30 p.m., arriving to find flames and smoke billowing from the rear of the house located on the 400 block of South Lima Circle.

Witnesses reported seeing the occupants safely outside in the front yard as crews initiated firefighting efforts. Fire officials confirmed that the fire, which originated in the kitchen, had spread into the attic by the time the first responders arrived. The blaze was brought under control by 6:57 p.m., approximately 17 minutes after the initial alarm.

According to Eric Hurst, spokesperson for Aurora Fire and Rescue, the fire caused “significant damage” to both the kitchen and the attic, yet fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The family affected did not seek assistance from the American Red Cross despite being displaced.

The incident mobilized a significant response, with 15 fire and medical units and around 40 personnel from Aurora Fire Rescue, Aurora Police, and Falck Rocky Mountain deployed to the scene.

Investigators determined that the fire was an “accidental kitchen fire related to cooking.” Hurst emphasized the dangers of cooking-related incidents, noting that cooking is the leading cause of home fires. He urged residents to never leave cooking unattended, keep combustible items away from heat sources, and ensure smoke alarms are functioning on every level of the home and in sleeping areas.

As the community assesses the damage and the family begins to cope with the aftermath, this incident serves as a critical reminder of fire safety in the kitchen. Stay tuned for ongoing coverage and updates on recovery efforts for the affected family.
