This surprise album builds on the themes explored in her previous work, “Eusexua,” and promises to offer an intense, personal look at the human experience.
The British singer-songwriter, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, shared insights into the creation of “Afterglow” during an interview from a car in New York City. After a busy promotional day, she humorously noted she was running on “2% personality” before dashing into a matcha café for a much-needed caffeine fix. Twigs expressed her excitement, stating, “It feels like I have my personality back,” reflecting her vibrant energy as she prepared to discuss her new music.
Twigs describes “Afterglow” as a concept album that captures the raw emotions and experiences following a night out, contrasting it with the more expansive themes of “Eusexua.” She aims to deliver a direct representation of human feelings, emphasizing spontaneity and authenticity. With 11 tracks, including songs like “Slushy” and “Cheap Hotel,” the album promises a blend of electronic sounds with influences from 90s R&B and contemporary club beats.
“Sometimes when you’re creating something, it feels like you’re pushing something uphill,” Twigs said, highlighting the natural flow of creativity she experienced during the production of “Afterglow.” Most of the album was crafted in her home studio in Hackney, London, showcasing a more intimate and personal approach to her music.
Since her debut with “LP1” in 2014, Twigs has consistently evolved her sound and artistic expression. Her previous album, “Eusexua,” released in January 2025, has continued to resonate with listeners, prompting her to explore further artistic depths. “I can’t explain it. Sometimes you put out an album, and then it feels like you need to stop for a while. But with ‘Eusexua,’ it felt like it was still growing,” she explained.

She emphasizes the importance of movement in understanding her art, stating, “Once you know ballet, then you can mess it up and let go.
