UPDATE: Freshman catcher Alexandre Giguère has just been named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week after a spectacular performance against Texas State University over the weekend. This honor comes on the heels of Giguère’s explosive showing, where he hit three home runs and drove in five RBIs, batting an impressive .363 with a slugging percentage of 1.182.
His standout performance is particularly remarkable given he had only played in three games prior to this weekend, starting just one. Giguère’s previous numbers were modest, with a batting average of only .250 and one RBI. However, during the Texas State series, he transformed his stats dramatically.
In the first game, Giguère hit a pivotal home run in the fifth inning, contributing to a crucial win. The following day, he doubled his home run count with two more long balls, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning and a solo shot in the eighth, helping the Cougs secure a 9-7 victory over the Bobcats.
Despite the Cougs losing the series 1-3, Giguère’s performance has solidified his position as a leading contender for a starting role. Currently, he leads the team with three home runs and an OPS of 1.375. Additionally, he ranks second in batting average at .333, fifth in RBIs with 6, and fifth in runs scored with 5.
Giguère’s impressive stats were accumulated over just six games and 15 at-bats. As the Cougs prepare to face San Diego State University from March 13 to March 15, fans and teammates alike are eager to see if Giguère can maintain this momentum in their upcoming Mountain West Conference play.
With his significant contributions, Alexandre Giguère is not just a player to watch but a rising star in the Mountain West. Expect more exciting updates as the Cougs continue their season!
