George Strait Announces Surprise Shows in Austin This April

Country music icon George Strait has announced two surprise performances at Austin’s Moody Center on April 9 and April 11, 2024. This engagement marks his return to Central Texas and follows a record-breaking concert in College Station in 2024, which set the standard for the largest ticketed concert in U.S. history. The shows will feature rising star William Beckmann, a fellow Texan, as the opening act.

Strait has a significant history with the Moody Center, having been its inaugural headliner when it opened in April 2022. During that debut, he shared the stage with Willie Nelson & Family and the Randy Rogers Band. The upcoming concerts will be Strait’s first public performances since his charity event at Boerne’s Estancia at Thunder Valley following the devastation caused by the Fourth of July events in 2025.

Best known for classic hits like “Amarillo by Morning” and “You Look So Good in Love,” Strait remains one of the best-selling artists across all music genres. He will be promoting his latest album, Cowboys and Dreamers, during these performances but is expected to include several of his timeless hits in the setlist.

Beckmann, who will open for Strait, is gaining recognition for his unique blend of country, red dirt, and influences from his childhood in Del Rio, Texas. His debut major label album, Whiskey Lies & Alibis, released in June 2025, showcases his vocal talent and musical versatility.

Presale tickets for the Moody Center shows became available on January 26, 2024, using the code TAKEMETOTEXAS. General sales will begin on January 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster.

In addition to the Austin shows, Strait is also scheduled to perform two nights at Lubbock’s Jones AT&T Stadium on April 24 and April 25, 2024, with support from Miranda Lambert and Zach Top. Fans eagerly anticipate these concerts, as Strait continues to captivate audiences with his music and stage presence.
