BREAKING: A judge has just announced a delay in the murder case against Gregory Arthur Romero, allowing his defense attorney more time to review a critical forensic evaluation. This urgent development comes as the court proceedings were postponed following a request from Romero’s legal team during a hearing held via Zoom on Monday, January 8, 2025.
Romero, who is accused of the fatal shooting of Keo Resse Cruz Taianao in June 2025 at the Guam Premier Outlets parking lot in Tamuning, appeared before Judge Maria T. Cenzon from the Department of Corrections. The incident, which allegedly took place in front of witnesses and was captured on both surveillance and social media footage, has drawn significant public attention.
The defense attorney, Heather Martinez Quitagua, expressed the need for additional time to thoroughly review the extensive forensic evaluation dated December 10. Citing recent receipt of new discovery materials from Romero’s former attorney, Gloria Rudolph, Quitagua emphasized the importance of a comprehensive review to develop an informed legal strategy.
“Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, I haven’t been able to go over it very carefully with my client, so I would request just sort of a brief continuance of this hearing so that we can provide the court with actually an educated plan forward,” she stated during the hearing.
Judge Cenzon acknowledged the significance of the forensic evaluation, describing it as “lengthy and very detailed,” and granted the continuance to ensure both sides have adequate time to consider the findings.
The prosecution, represented by Valerie Amante Nuesa, confirmed that the assigned deputy attorney general, John David Griffin, had not yet reviewed the report. This lack of review contributed to the decision to postpone further proceedings.
Romero is currently being held on $1 million cash bail and is facing serious charges, including aggravated murder and aggravated assault as a second-degree felony, with a special allegation related to the use of a deadly weapon. The delay in the case leaves many unanswered questions regarding the next steps, as both parties prepare for future hearings.
No new date for the rescheduled hearing was announced in court, but notices are expected to be issued shortly. This case continues to develop, and the community is watching closely as the legal process unfolds.
