URGENT UPDATE: Significant traffic disruptions are hitting Boulder County this week as multiple construction projects roll out across the area. Residents and commuters should prepare for delays and closures that could impact travel plans.
From November 1-7, 2023, major improvements are underway on 28th Street, where crews are enhancing multimodal travel from Pearl to Iris. Notably, the northbound 28th Street and Valmont Road RTD Stop No. 17992 will be temporarily relocated just south of the Valmont intersection. This relocation is expected to last until December 31.
In a separate project, starting this week, crews will be replacing the bridge over Fourmile Canyon Creek on 19th Street. As a result, northbound 19th Street will close to all traffic between Sumac and Upland. A detour for vehicles and RTD services will be in place, rerouting traffic via Quince. This project is anticipated to be completed by April 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, the 63rd Street waterline replacement project is causing closures from Jay to Valmont. Local access for businesses and residents will be maintained, but full through traffic will be restricted. Work is expected to conclude by April 1, 2024.
Additionally, milling and paving operations are ongoing on Colo. 7 with alternating lane closures between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road. This work is expected to continue through late October, with completion set for December 15. Drivers can expect lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday.
In the Boulder County area, the Sugarloaf Road culvert replacement at Betasso Road is also underway. This project will require lane closures and the installation of a temporary three-way traffic signal, leading to potential travel delays expected to last into November. Access to the Betasso Preserve will remain open.
Boulder officials have also confirmed that the waterline replacement on 63rd Street will impact traffic through February 2024. A full closure of 63rd Street between Jay Road and Twin Lakes Road will be in effect through mid-November, restricting access while local traffic is allowed.
For those traveling in Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation project is ongoing, with work scheduled through March 2026. While no lane closures are expected, brief delays may occur as work vehicles access the site.
Moreover, lane closures for the Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive traffic signal installation will take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through December.
Finally, Weld County has announced full closures of WCR 1.5 and WCR 3 between WCR 10 and 10.5 through November 26, with closures in effect 24 hours a day for essential maintenance.
Stay tuned for further updates as these projects progress and prepare for delays if you plan to travel through Boulder County this week.
