UPDATE: A man has been charged after allegedly firing a gun during a confrontation at a home early Monday morning. Jordan Michael Babauta, 34, is accused of brandishing a firearm and threatening a couple after being asked to leave their property on Inalahan Highway.
The incident unfolded at approximately 2:15 a.m. when police responded to a report of a disturbance. According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court, Babauta arrived at the couple’s home seeking money. The man, who had previously assisted Babauta about three years ago, stated that he had no funds available.
Tensions escalated when a woman, who was preparing breakfast, intervened and instructed Babauta to leave. The situation intensified as he assumed a fighting stance. Following a brief altercation where the man punched Babauta, the accused pulled out a gun, threatening to kill him. Babauta reportedly fired a shot, aimed just inches from the couple’s feet, before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Babauta was arrested on Wednesday, where he denied making any threats. Authorities have charged him with terrorizing as a third-degree felony, coupled with a special allegation of using a deadly weapon. If convicted, he could face up to 28 years in prison. He is currently being held on $5,000 cash bail.
This shocking incident raises concerns about safety in the community and highlights the potential dangers of confrontations over money. Local authorities continue to investigate the matter.
As the situation develops, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. Further updates will follow as more details emerge.
