Microsoft Resolves Major Windows Bugs in Urgent Patch Tuesday Update

UPDATE: Microsoft has just announced the rollout of critical Patch Tuesday updates that address several significant bugs affecting Windows users. As of October 10, 2023, users can expect immediate fixes for issues that have caused frustration over the past few weeks.

These updates, released monthly on the second Tuesday, include the resolution of a major bug where closing Task Manager resulted in duplicate processes. This issue, which has been troubling Windows customers, has now been officially addressed in KB5068861. Users no longer need to utilize complex workarounds to manage their systems effectively.

Windows 10, although out of mainstream support, continues to receive essential security updates through the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Recently, customers reported two prevalent bugs within the OS. The first issue, affecting eligible devices, has been rectified through an out-of-band update labeled KB5071959. Users are advised to apply this update and restart their devices to ensure they receive the latest enhancements.

A second bug has been causing alerts stating, “Your version of Windows has reached the end of support,” even for Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) editions that remain supported. Microsoft has addressed this problem through KB5068781. Without this installation, users will face continued challenges that Microsoft previously outlined.

In addition to Windows 10, Windows Server 2025 was also impacted by critical bugs. Server-side applications using HTTP.sys have faced issues with incoming connections. Moreover, IT administrators have encountered problems with Active Directory (AD) groups exceeding 10,000 members. Both of these server-related issues have been fixed with KB5068861. For those who do not implement these updates, previous workarounds will still be necessary.

As the tech community watches closely, these patches are crucial for maintaining system performance and security. Microsoft encourages all users to implement the updates immediately to avoid future complications.

NEXT STEPS: Users should check their update settings and ensure they are running the latest versions to experience improved functionality and security. Stay tuned for further updates as Microsoft continues to address user concerns and enhance system reliability.
