Middlesex Community College Appoints Melissa Chandonnet as Dean

UPDATE: Middlesex Community College has just announced the appointment of Melissa Chandonnet as the new dean of K-16 partnerships. This significant leadership change is poised to enhance the college’s collaboration with local K-12 institutions across Massachusetts.

Chandonnet, who previously served as the interim dean of education and K-16 partnerships, brings over 16 years of experience in higher education to this crucial role. Her immediate focus will be on strengthening existing partnerships and forging new connections with high schools to boost college enrollment and better align educational offerings with workforce needs. “Strong K-16 partnerships can increase college enrollment, improve persistence, and better align education with workforce needs,” Chandonnet emphasized.

Beginning in the fall 2025 semester, Chandonnet will collaborate with MCC faculty to support high school partners, reviewing current articulation agreements with both high schools and four-year institutions. She is also spearheading efforts to secure accreditation from the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships, further elevating the college’s reputation and reach.

Middlesex Community College currently partners with numerous high schools to offer early college programs at no cost to students. Notable partners include Lowell High School, Nashoba Valley Technical High School, and an emerging collaboration with Martha’s Vineyard. These initiatives enable students to earn college credits while still in high school, opening doors to higher education much earlier than ever before.

Chandonnet stated, “These partnerships make it possible for students to see themselves as college students earlier, earn college credit while still in high school, and explore careers before graduation.” This commitment to education is crucial for students who may not have envisioned a college path, ensuring they gain the skills and confidence to succeed.

With her background in retail marketing and management from Johnson and Wales University, Chandonnet began her career in higher education through community engagement projects. Her work with the AmeriCorps program at MCC ignited her passion for education and community partnerships. “These experiences opened my eyes to how higher education institutions have the responsibility to collaborate with their surrounding communities,” Chandonnet remarked.

Since joining MCC, Chandonnet has played a pivotal role in expanding the college’s concurrent enrollment program from 22 partners to over 40 in just six years. Her vision is clear: to provide meaningful educational experiences that promote inclusivity and accessibility for all students.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my work at MCC in this new role,” she expressed. “Community colleges play a critical role in expanding access to higher education. I wanted to work at an institution that not only changes individual lives but also strengthens the community it serves.”

As Chandonnet steps into her new role, her dedication to breaking down barriers and expanding educational opportunities for students will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the community and the future of Middlesex Community College.
